Pipeline Safety Inspections
Each year the Pipeline Safety Program conducts a variety of standard and specialized inspections for interstate and intrastate pipeline operators in accordance with Chapter 81.88 Revised Code of Washington (RCW); Washington Administrative Code Chapters 480-93 and 480-75; and Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Parts 191, 192, 193, 195, and 199. Each inspection type has a maximum interval of three to five years as indicated on the table below. The program uses a risk-based approach to determine the frequency of inspections for each operator based on a set of risk factors obtained from gas operator annual reports, incident reports, leak history data, and semi-annual performance metrics. Field inspections also include direct inspection of pipeline facilities
