Sanitation

The UTC and the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) have jurisdiction over railroad employee safety and health. The UTC’s rules require railroad companies to provide sanitary conditions for railroad employees. These rules include on-track equipment like locomotives and cabooses. L&I has jurisdiction over railroad fixed sites in rail yards, like office buildings and crew rooms.  

UTC staff conduct sanitation inspections when someone files a complaint or when an inspection shows a need for follow-up.
