Laws And Rules
The Motor Carrier Safety Program helps keep people safe when they travel in Washington state. We check the safety of private companies that provide transportation services. Our goal is to reduce accidents by inspecting vehicles and reviewing safety practices.
During safety reviews, we look at company vehicles used to serve the public. We also review safety complaints and help companies understand and follow state and federal safety rules.
These companies include:
- passenger charter and excursion buses,
- non-profit buses,
- airport shuttles,
- rail contract crew carriers,
- common carriers,
- household goods movers, and
- solid waste carriers.
The UTC does not monitor traffic. For traffic updates, please visit the Washington State Department of Transportation Travel Alert web page.
