Beware of Imposter Scams

The UTC does not collect funds or issue refunds on behalf of utility companies. If you think that you have been targeted by this scam, please contact your utility company immediately.

Notice of Requirement for US DOT Number

In 2009, the Legislature passed a law, House Bill 1843, that will affect your operations. By January 1, 2010, carriers regulated by the UTC must obtain a United States Department of Transportation (DOT) number, even if you only operate within Washington state.

If you already operate in interstate commerce and have a DOT number, you do not need to do anything.

You may apply for a DOT number online at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) web site. The FMCSA web site is: www.fmcsa.dot.gov/online-registration

Even if the FMCSA web site indicates you don’t need a DOT number, Washington law requires a DOT number for Intrastate operations.

If you need assistance with the online registration process or have other questions, please call the Washington State Patrol, who administers this program at (360) 596-3812.
