Utilities and Transportation Commission appoints new executive director

 

LACEY, Wash. - The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission today announced the appointment of Jeff Killip as the agency’s new executive director and secretary. Killip’s appointment begins Feb. 1, 2024.

Killip has extensive leadership experience and currently serves as the Department of Industrial Relations chief for California Occupational Safety and Health, where he leads a team of nearly 900 employees. Previously, Killip worked at the Washington Department of Labor and Industries as the assistant director for Occupational Safety and Health. Killip has more than 12 years of executive leadership and management experience and has an extensive background in strategic planning and organizational development.

Killip succeeds Amanda Maxwell, who accepted a new position earlier this year.

“I am thrilled that Jeff Killip has agreed to take on this role,” said UTC Chair Dave Danner. “He has a great breadth of knowledge and experience and I know he’ll be a strong leader for our organization.”

Killip holds a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University, a juris doctorate degree from Seattle University of law and a master’s degree in public health from John Hopkins University.     

The UTC regulates the rates and services of household goods movers; passenger transportation companies; investor-owned electric, natural gas, garbage, and water utilities; landline telecommunications companies; garbage haulers; commercial ferries; pipeline companies; marine pilotage; and a low-level radioactive waste repository. The commission ensures that the services of regulated companies are safe, available, reliable, and fairly priced.
