Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission
The commission provides safety oversight of privately-owned companies that provide transportation services in Washington, such as charter and excursion, auto-transportation, non-profit, contract rail crew transportation, solid waste, and household goods residential moving companies.
The commission's Motor Carrier Safety program conducts safety evaluations to determine the overall safety fitness of regulated companies. Staff evaluates records related to drug and alcohol testing, driver qualifications, and vehicle maintenance.
Our program inspects company vehicles used to provide service to the public, investigate complaints, and help regulated companies understand and comply with state and federal safety requirements.
