​On November 21, 2011, Spartan Environmental LLC filed with the commission an application for a certificate of public convenience and necessity to operate motor vehicles in furnishing solid waste collection service consisting of bio-hazardous and biomedical waste in the state of Washington.

The commission received three protests to the application.

One protest on behalf of Washington Refuse & Recycling, Rubatino Refuse Removal, Consolidated Disposal Services, Murrey's Disposal, and Pullman Disposal Service.  The second protest on behalf of Stericycle of Washington.  The third protest on behalf of Waste Management of Washington, Inc.

The commission held a prehearing conference in this matter on February 1, 2012.

On February 9, 2012, the commission entered Order 01 - Prehearing Conference Order.  Order 01, among other things, establishes a procedural schedule in this matter.  Two status conferences are scheduled, one for April 30, 2012, at 1:30 p.m., and the other for June 12, 2012, at 1:30 p.m.  Both will be held at UTC headquarters, Richard Hemstad Building, 1300 S. Evergreen Park Drive S.W., Olympia, Washington.
