On Feb. 4, 2015, BNSF Railway Company (BNSF) filed with the commission a Petition, with attachments, for the closure of a highway-rail grade crossing located at Valley View Road in Whatcom County.

Whatcom County filed with the commission an objection to the petition and requested that the matter be scheduled for hearing in order to address its concerns.

On May 7, 2015, the commission issued a notice of prehearing conference.  The commission held a prehearing conference in this matter on June 8, 2015, at 1:30 p.m., at UTC headquarters, Olympia, Washington.

On June 9, 2015, the commission entered Order 01, Prehearing Conference Order.  Order 01, among other things, set an evidentiary hearing for Dec. 1, 2015, and continuing as required on Dec. 2, 2015.  The evidentiary hearing is tentatively scheduled to be held in Room 206, Second Floor, Richard Hemstad Building, 1300 S. Evergreen Park Drive S.W., Olympia, Washington.

The commission will also hold a public comment hearing at 6:00 p.m. on Dec. 1, 2015, tentatively scheduled to be held in room 206, Second Floor, Richard Hemstad Building, 1300 S. Evergreen Park Drive S.W., Olympia, Washington.

The commission issued a notice on September 29, 2015, changing the location of the evidentiary hearing and public comment hearing from the UTC headquarters in Olympia to the Whatcom County Courthouse, Council Chambers, First Floor, 311 Grand Avenue, Bellingham, WA.

On March 8, 2016 the commission entered Order 02, Initial Order Granting Petition to Close Valley View Road Grade Crossing Subject to Conditions.
