Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission
On March 19, 2015, the commission issued a complaint against BNSF Railway Company (BNSF). The commission, on its own motion, and through its Staff, alleges that BNSF committed 700 violations of WAC 480-62-310 which requires railroad companies to make detailed telephone reports to the commission's designee, the Washington state emergency operations center, within 30 minutes after learning of an event connected to railroad operations that results in the release of any hazardous material.

The commission held a prehearing conference in this matter on May 18, 2015, at UTC headquarters in Olympia, Washington.
On May 19, 2015, the commission entered Order 01, Prehearing Conference Order.
On August 27, 2015, BNSF and Staff, the only parties to the proceeding, filed a Settlement Agreement.
On September 1, 2015, the commission, on its own motion, issued a notice suspending the procedural schedule in this matter, pending commission consideration and decision regarding the settlement.
By notice issued September 17, 2015, the commission will convene a hearing for purposes of examining the terms and conditions of the settlement and determining whether commission approval of the settlement agreement is consistent with the public interest.
The commission convened a hearing on the parties' proposed settlement on October 19, 2015, in Room 206, Richard Hemstad Building, 1300 S. Evergreen Park Drive S.W., Olympia, Washington.
On December 7, 2015, the commission entered Order 02, Final Order Approving Settlement Agreement With Conditions.
