Temporary Pause on Utility Disconnects and Late Fees Extended through July 28
On May 29, Gov. Jay Inslee issued Proclamation 20-23.4, extending the statewide moratorium on service disconnects, refusing to reconnect service, and late fees for all energy, telecommunications, and water utilities in Washington state through July 28. These restrictions were originally put into place in March, due to the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Customers will still be expected to pay their bills once the temporary pause expires.
Additionally, the order extends certain statutory waivers through June 17, allowing the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission to continue to authorize utilities to use existing customer low income funds for households who have been had financial impacts from the pandemic, but who might not otherwise have qualified for the funds.
The proclamation also requires utilities to develop a COVID-19 Customer Support Program and post it on a public website by July 10.
Customers who need assistance with their utility bills should contact the UTC at 1-888-333-WUTC (9882).
