Careless excavation or other digging projects are the leading cause of damage to underground utilities. This damage, which is largely preventable, presents a hazard to public health, safety and utility services.
To help increase awareness of the hazards of working near underground utilities and increase knowledge of underground utility damage prevention techniques, the Utilities and Transportation Commission sponsors a free “Underground Utility Damage Prevention” seminar.
Who should attend?
Utility operators and professionals engaged in subsurface activities. Local public safety and construction officials will benefit by better understanding their roles in the Dig Safe process. Engineers and planners will gain insights on the importance of avoiding disruptions to the utility infrastructure and how advance planning improves project productivity.
What will be discussed?
Topics may include working near underground utilities, how the “Call 811” call center operates, utilities and excavation safety.
